Introductory racing program for ages 8-14

           

The Optimist is a 7’9” long, single-handed sailing pram,

             with a sprit rig. The Optimist is the biggest

youth racing class in the world.

Additional registration and coaching fees required for the Florida East Coast Series Regatta Series (dates:10/18; 11/8; 11/15) and for the Junior Olympic Sailing Festival (12/12-13) and the Sunshine State Opti Championship (3/6-7).

For those enrolled in the Sunday Opti Learn To Race program, an additional training option is available on Tuesdays from 4 to 6pm.

Member Rates:

Full program (Fall & Winter) is $735  

Fall 2020 only: $435 due before first day 

Winter 2021 only: $435 due before first day 

Non-Member Rates:

Full program (Fall & Winter) rate is $835  

Fall 2020 only: $485 due before first day 

Winter 2021 only: $485 due before first day 

Rates include the cost of a sailing helmet which is a requirement for the program.  A $35 credit will be offered if your sailor owns their own helmet.

Students should already know how to sail.  A minimum of 2 weeks of Summer Sailing Camp experience.

  • Minimum required skills in 8-10 kts of wind
    • Rig the boat
    • Launch the boat unassisted
    • Hold a point of sail
    • Capable of tacking and jibing
    • Capsize recovery
    • Bail the boat
    • Resume sailing
    • Return to the beach unassisted
