FAQs
Do I need a background check to volunteer at the USSCMC?

All USSCMC employees are background checked prior to employment. To volunteer as an instructor, assistant or supervisor with children for more than 10 hours per month you must have a Level 2 Live Scan Background Check. The USSCMC will coordinate and pay for the background check. If you are assisting a class with a screened employee/ volunteer and you are not with a child in a private unsupervised situation and you are volunteering for less than 10 hours per month, then background screening can be temporarily waived. Race committee, judges, umpires and regatta personnel are exempt when volunteering in a regatta competition/tournament situation.
