Power Boat Safety Course

8AM- 12 Noon

4-hour course with classroom and on-water practical.  Followed by the option of working a safety boat during the Treasure Coast Youth Regatta Series - Final Regatta 1 PM- 3:30 PM at the USSCMC.

$40 per person or $20 per person if you are a volunteer for the USSCMC

Prerequisites: A desire to volunteer on the water at future youth regattas

Goals & Objectives: To establish understanding and safe practices for all USSCMC Safety Boat Operators.  Answering any questions that people have and establishing further confidence and skills for those who volunteer.

Course Outline: 

  • Preparation (weather, tides, safety equipment, RC equipment) 
  • Safety Boat Operation (Trouble Shooting and Simple Maneuvers) 
  • Communication (VHF and nonverbal) 
  • Understanding Sailboat Differences 
  • Proper Race Course Etiquette 
  • Activating the Emergency Action Plan 
  • Safety Boat Positioning and Procedures 
  • Towing
