420 Dolly Stands Constructed by Eagle Scout Jack Lusk

Jack Lusk, local Eagle Scout and Jensen Beach High School Senior, has completed his community service project for the USSCMC, constructing cement dolly stands for our 420s. Thank you Jack! Photo above left: shows the dolly stands and right: Jack Lusk (on left) being thanked by USSCMC Director Alan Jenkinson.
Holiday Sailing Camp
USSCMC recently hosted a Holiday Sailing Camp. There were approximately 10 campers in each of 6 sessions. The weather was very cold for the three-day camp. Despite the cold there was some afternoon sailing. The Optis, 420s, Sunfish, Hobie Wave and Flying Scot were all sailed. Brooks Rich was the mini-camp director with assistant instructors Matt McCord, Joline Doedens and Scott Fenton.
We'll be back in June for our annual Summer Camp - check here for info in February. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
The Pine School High School Sailing Team
Congratulations to The Pine School on fielding their first-ever high school sailing team. We're pleased to host this spirited group of sailors and wish them the best in their upcoming regattas! The team (L to R): Peg Parnevik, Avery Camp, Alexia Heathcock, Myrthe Doedens, Karolina Poderski, J.P. Silvestri, Austin Blumethal and Bo Herlin.
Ethan Lounsbury takes Gold at USODA Southeast Championship
Congratulations to Ethan Lounsbury for his first place win at the Southeast Dinghy Championship! Seventy-five boats competed in the event, held September 26-27, on Lake Lanier in Flowery Branch, Georgia. After four races in cool, gray 4-10kt conditions on Saturday, sailors and spectators were rewarded with absolutely terrific conditions for the final four races on Sunday with sunny skies, temperature in the 70s and 6-12kts breeze. Ethan was tied for first at the end of day one; on Sunday he fell to second by one point with one race to go. Ethan pulled it together, had a good start and went right coming up the final leg of the course, winning the race. Lounsbury says, "It was a really fun regatta and it's the same place where I sailed my first Red/White/Blue regatta two years ago." Ethan's name is engraved on a perpetual trophy that he keeps until he passes it to next year's champion. The win qualifies Ethan for Team Trials in Houston in April, 2010. This weekend Ethan heads to Milwaukee for the USODA Midwest Championship and will be racing on Lake Michigan Saturday through Monday. We wish him good luck!
Grand Launching Ceremony of the Restored Flying Scot
The USSCMC will host a "Grand Launching Ceremony" of our newly-restored Flying Scot on Friday, October 2 at 3:00pm. This ceremony concludes a 6-month process that involved volunteers: Tony Downsbrough, Jack Frick, Richard Lusk, Randy Alford, Steve Tate, John Mann, Garrett Alford and George Nitschke along with the donated professional help of Danny Cabrera of Danny's Boat Restoration. You can witness the launching of The Volunteer sailboat as we tow it through the "mast up passage" that was specially designed through the border fence to the boat ramp property and launch from the boat ramp next door. This is your opportunity to thank the many dedicated volunteers who have made this "like new" boat part of our Flying Scot fleet. Opportunities to sail The Volunteer will immediately follow. The Volunteer is dedicated to ALL of YOU who volunteer your time and resources to make the USSCMC such a special place. Thank you for all that you do!
